A workshop on Programming in Python



Dear ISE students (Undergraduate and Graduate),

Subject: INFORMS Student Chapter at MSU Workshop on Python Programming

MSU INFORMS Student Chapter is organizing a workshop on Python Programming on Friday (August 15) from 3:00  to 4:00 pm in the Brannan conference room (just outside the ISE office). The speaker is Eghbal Rashidi. 

Python is a useful and widely used high level programming language. It has very rich libraries and free packages, that is what makes it as the one of the fastest growing language in the world.

You will need to come with your own laptop with Python installed on it if you want to acquire the full benefit from the session. You can still come and watch the presentation without a laptop. Following are some links to download, install and learn Python.

Technical Session of CLPEX C++ Concert Technology



Dear ISE students (Undergraduate and Graduate),

Subject: INFORMS chapter at MSU technical session on CPLEX C++ concert technology

MSU INFORMS Student Chapter is organizing a technical  session on Friday (January 24) from 3.30 to 5.00 pm in the Brannan conference room (just outside the ISE office). We will use the final 30 minutes only if we need to. Md. Sadekuzzaman Roni is the speaker of the session.

FYI, CPLEX is an widely used optimization  software from IBM ILOG, and CPLEX C++ concert technology facilitates embedding of CPLEX code in C++ programs.

You will need to come with your own laptop with CPLEX and  C++ (e.g. visual studio) installed in it if you want to acquire the full benefit from the session. You can still come and watch the presentation without a laptop. Following are some links to download and install CPLEX and C++. If you have difficulty downloading and installing them, feel free to see or email Roni for help (including installation files). Note that you will be able to download Cplex from the IBM site only after becoming a member of their academic initiative.

INFORMS Chapter at MSU speaker series (Dr. Chase Murray)



Dear ISE students (Undergraduate and Graduate),

    Dr. Chase Murray, Assistant Professor, Industrial and Systems Engineering, Auburn University will be speaking for INFORMS chapter this Friday. It will be primarily a Q&A session. Dr. Murray worked for Intel and Dallas semiconductors for five year before joining academia. So, following are the topics of the session.
1. Difference between the working environments in industry and academia
2. How to prepare for an industry job
3. How to prepare for an academic job

Latex Technical Session


Dear ISE students (Undergraduate and Graduate),


MSU INFORMS Student Chapter is organizing a technical session on Monday (November 25th) from 3.30 to 5.00 pm in Room 180 (just outside the ISE office). Mohammad Marufuzzaman (PhD student, ISE) is the speaker of the session. He will take a journal paper template with every varieties of information (text, table, figures, bibliography, etc.) that are usually included in a paper and demonstrate step by step how to prepare that document. This software is specialized for technical writing and creates much better quality documents than MS Word or equivalent. Also, you can use user interfaces like Lyx on top of latex for convenience.

You will need to come with your own laptop with any of the Latex packages installed in it if you want to acquire the full benefit from the session. You can still come and watch the presentation without a laptop. Following are some links to download and install Latex packages. Attached is the paper template and other files that the speaker will be using.

Seminar by Dr. Peter Kelle (LSU college of business) on Business Analytics and his current research


Dear ISE students (Undergraduate and Graduate),


MSU INFORMS Student Chapter organized a seminar on Thursday October 31st 2013 at 1:00 pm.

 Dr. Peter Kelle of the Department of Information Systems and Decision Sciences at Louisiana State University was the speaker in the seminar. The outline of the seminar is as follows:

1. The field of analytics and the MS program in Analytics in Lousiana State University department of Information systems and decision sciences

2. Overview on research project: A Multi-Criteria Decision Case for Traffic Improvement Project Selection

Dr. Kelle is also an editor of the International Journal of Production Economics and a professor in the college of business of LSU, therefore he answered students' questions about the journal and the review process.
